Fight Night Tournament Plans Revealed

LUCHA XTREME WRESTLING Chairman, Omar Azure, has confirmed that two champions will be crowned on the first edition of his LXW show Friday Night, FIGHT NIGHT.

The former ‘Xcellent Championship Wrestling’ World Heavyweight Champion has devised a huge, roster-wide tournament that will see the coronation of both the LXW Xtreme and LXW Heavyweight Champions, whoever they may be.

Speaking exclusively to lxwexclusive.com, Azure explained: “Fans want to see champions and that’s exactly what they’ll get with the first edition of Fight Night.”

“The first person to sign a contract with Lucha Xtreme Wrestling will be remembered in our history database, and awarded by being locked in the main event as the lucky dog of the tournament. The tournament will feature every active roster member, all of whom will compete in a series of singles matches to qualify for the main event. The main event will then feature the winners of those qualifiers, and the lucky dog qualifier, and will be contested over three stages,” stated Omar.

He continued: “The first stage will be a battle royal elimination match, where elimination via pinfall or submission occurs until only three fighters remain. At that stage, the match will change to a hardcore rules match for the LXW Xtreme Championship.

Once a winner has been crowned in that match, a cage will lower for the final stage – a triple threat, escape only cage match for the LXW Heavyweight Championship.”

The format of this tournament could – in theory – result in a double champion; something that the Owner/Chairman is well aware of.

Azure said: “We want to showcase the very best as our golden standard and I can’t think of a better way to achieve that than to put our finest three through their paces in a hardcore match and then a cage match. If one person wins both titles then they’ll have earned that right, particularly having survived a qualifying match and an elimination battle royal beforehand.”

While it’s still not certain when Fight Night will announce the dates of its first show, speculation is mounting that a statement could be released sometime next week. Regardless of when the first show airs, one certainty is that the night will end with the crowning of two new champions.
